ROOT-ed (Revolution Of Our Time) Zine is an independent magazine and platform co-founded by Amber Akaunu and Fauziya Johnson during their final year of art school. The magazine grew out of a recognition that race and place can have an impact on how easy a career in the arts is to pursue. The aim of ROOT-ed was to be space that encourages inspiration, visibility and offers genuine support to Black, Asian and Global Majority artists in the North West of England. Through bi-monthly publications, workshops, lectures, public programming, curating and social media, ROOT-ed Zine challenged biases around what an artist looks like and who traditional art institutions are for.

Across ROOT-ed Zine's 12 digital and printed publications, it explored themes of belonging, hair, mental health, food and politics. Each issue had an editorial introduction where Amber and Fauziya would offer insights into the moment the issue found them and the reasoning around their chosen theme. They would also spotlight an artist in each issue, alongside interviews and submissions from artists responding to the issue's theme. It featured artists such as Lubaina Himid, Sadè Mica, Parys Gardener, Amina Atiq, Tiffany Leung and Ivy Kalungi.
